What Is Shrinkflation?

prices are up across the board at the supermarket. Of course inflation and supply chain issues have had an effect. But companies also use a little trick called shrink flay shin. They reduce the size or quantity of a product while the price stays the same or increases a little, so in effect you're getting less while paying more, according to the Consumer World website. This Box of cocoa pebbles originally 20.5 ounces is now 19.5 or these pretzels originally 28 ounces now 26 ounces, It even affects dishwashing items like Dawn. This bottle was 7oz. Now it's 6.5, nearly every category of food is seeing accelerated price growth, Eggs are up 32%, poultry 16.6% and milk is up 15.9% just to name a few overall. The price of groceries is up 11.9% from last year, the largest increase in more than 40 years, but the cost of eating out is only 7.4% higher. So in a strange twist, it's getting less expensive to eat out than it is to eat at home.
