What to Expect From Univision’s Premios Juventud 2022

between bells and baker machado and new york, one of the summer's biggest celebrations is back, Univision's Premios juventud has announced its star studded lineup of performers from Latin Pop to regional mexican music. The stars set to perform represent diversity of latin music and culture. And this year marks an exciting change for the event for the first time in its history, its gonna be broadcast live outside of Miami in beautiful Puerto rico. So joining us now to discuss is Ignacio Mayor E. V. P of music and non scripted entertainment over at Univision. Such a pleasure to have you here. So how is Univision making this year's event stand out from all the other ones you've had in the past? Yeah, well, first and foremost, thank you for uh for having us and allow us to to speak a little bit about premise 12, you're still a little bit of the thunder however, because one of the most special things actually um is the fact That we will, for the first time in its history, 19 years be taking the show from Miami to Puerto rico under the theme of celebra, to passion, celebrate your passion. Um In its 19th uh season we are going to go to Puerto Rico and really those two words typify what this show is about and what Latin culture is about passion and celebration. Um well you're gonna see a plethora of artists new up and coming stars such as Manny Cruz. We've got CNC, Oh doing a brand new song. We've got the viral sensation Montecito in collaboration with alejo fade and Robbie and our nominees um you know, which you are also showing some of our incredible, we have a list of artists that truly represents culture that truly is diverse and we're very proud to throw the summer's biggest party in san juan Puerto rico. It'll be exciting. It'll be different. Absolutely. And plus we also love the collaborations that we see and stuff like this as well. You mentioned two of the artists in particular that were really fascinated about C. N. C. E. O and Angela Regular, both of them, by the way, two nominations for them. What does it mean for these artists? Ignacio to be nominated for something like this. I mean it's too it's it's very important to them. It really can be career changing and can be um you know, very validating for what they're doing. These awards are voted on by fans and they're very important to them in two very different ways for C. N. C. O. This is an award show that continues to validate their strength in terms of Angela Gill are which is a an up and coming regional mexican star. I would say she's no longer up and coming. She's here and here to stay. Um she is an extreme talent. I mean she's got an angelic voice she represents culture. But what's very interesting is that she is defending a very traditional genre, a cultural, iconic folkloric, almost art in the body of this beautiful young lady. Um and what is otherwise a genre that has long been dominated by male figures. It's the strength of a female coming onto the scene. It's the strength of culture, um lasting generation after generation. And it's it's gonna be a phenomenal celebration. She's prepared a very special madly where she's going to sing one of her nominated songs on the back of a very special culturally relative song without giving away the surprise that will be more of a tropical rhythm and C N C O. Again, not to go back to the beginning. They were born on Univision. They are the most popular, you know, pop group out there and they have a very special announcement they're also going to be making. So, and I'm just trying to hold back and you're such a good producer on this agnostic on the tees is amazing by the way, the other amazing award that's gonna be out that night is the Agent of Change Award, which we always are fascinated by and this year we've seen and handle gonna be recognized for that. So, tell us a little bit about this award and how they're sort of being recognized with this. Yeah. Look, one of the, one of the other things that makes PJ very special um is that we are special awards are dedicated um as we've named into those artists who are being Agents of Change. So there will be six awards during the night. 32 artists and 32 regular people that are doing something extraordinary with their platforms, that are doing something extraordinary for the community and their contributions for their legacies. In this case we've announced our first Agent of Change, which is l do dynamic, which is we've seen the handle, they are pioneers of the reggaeton movement, they have used their platform to continue to preserve, you know, urban music and they are very, very active in passing on the torch. They are one of the artists that has the most active production facilities and sort of, you know, and and and passing on the torch to brand new artist. So they work with a lot of young artists, they're going to be recognized for, we're going to do an incredible medley of their hits. They're going to be joined on stage by some surprise artists, but it's really with a lot of pride that we we assigned them the Agent of Change Award along with two other artists and three individuals that we're gonna be releasing over the next week. So there's a lot of more exciting news coming up. We've seen again, then it's a privilege to have on stage any time they have, if you've not seen them some, I mean, incredible energy, right? Unparalleled energy. And the hits really are our never ending with them. And this by the way, the 19th edition of this event that you guys have been doing for Univision, not to, you know, we gotta talk about Puerto rico, one of the most beautiful places in the entire world. How does it sort of play a role in this event? And how do you sort of highlight Puerto rico as sort of another sort of element on this thing? I mean it plays a tremendous role, right? Even from the theme, right? Celebrate its passion, right? Celebration and passion or a definition of Puerto rico celebration and passion or a definition of our culture, there are the definition of our music, Puerto rico plays a role because it's one of the arguably two or three places where latin music in different genres was born, right? We often forget, but a lot of our pop stars uh come from Puerto rico, right, Ricky martin, right? You've got mark antony right? You've got plenty of them, right, J lo um so that first generation of latin pop crossover artists like from Puerto rico and the new sound, the urban sound was also in large part born in Puerto rico from the daddy Yankee's of this world that we've seen. The handles of this world are largely responsible for the new urban movement. So it plays a very very big role. It was very important to us to go back to Puerto rico. We tried to do this post Maria, post the hurricane to try and support the community. We try to do it right before the pandemic and we're very happy to go back there now and celebrate in an open way, in a very, very big way. So Puerto rico be a big part of it. You also see it see us throughout the island. So there's a there's a couple of musicals that will show a little bit of Puerto rico and that will happen in live involve the fans. We expect the energy to be off the charts. I can only imagine Agnosia is such a pleasure to have you here. So excited for this Agnosia Mayor, the E. V.
