Wondering what to watch this weekend? This week we have the latest Power play, looking for a home overseas, the quintessential mother-daughter duo from the aughts, and a YouTube comedy series that never gets old.

Power Book IV: Force, S2 - Starz

Picked by Lawrence Banton

Tommy Egan is back! Last season we saw Egan flee New York City after faking his death in an attempt to evade NYPD who was closing in on him for a number of crimes. So far, he has, unsurprisingly, made a number of new enemies but found a new right-hand man. They've set out to take over the entire city of Chicago's drug world, but what is that old saying? 'What's done in the dark will always come to light.' Tommy's past is going to catch up with him and fast. The best part of it all is I can see the build-up to a crossover brewing with Power: Force and Power: Ghost.

House Hunters International - Max

Picked by Senior Editor Dina Ross

When HBO Max merged with Discover+ earlier this year, subscribers got a whole new portfolio of entertainment to watch, including HGTV favorites. I've recently been binge-watching old episodes of House Hunters International, which I never catch on TV in real time, but have seemingly endless hours to watch on Max. If you haven't seen it, the series is a spin-off of the U.S.-based show, but in this case homebuyers or renters are moving overseas and need to find the perfect place to call home. A real estate expert (with varying degrees of patience) shows them three potential houses or apartments and they pick one to move into. I know it's all staged, budgets are never in line with the features people want, and they inevitably pick the wrong place (in my opinion), but the half-hour episodes are a great, low-stakes chance to enjoy some dreaming about real estate and vacation.

Throwback Picks

The Maria Bamford Show - YouTube

Picked by Newsletter Writer Graison Dangor

If you like weird comedy — little voices, shuffling around, raccoon impressions, intrusive thoughts — you probably already know about Maria Bamford. If you do (like weird comedy) but don't (know about Maria Bamford), I'm honored to make this introduction. You could check out her Netflix sitcom (shamefully canceled before its time), the special where she performs to an audience of just her parents, or her new memoir, Sure, I'll Join Your Cult. But I still think the the best place to start is her 2009 YouTube series, The Maria Bamford Show. It's an apt title because she plays every character, including her mom and her high school nemesis who harasses her at their hometown Target.

Gilmore Girls - Netflix

Picked by Growth Associate Keara O’Driscoll

Although the official start of fall doesn’t technically start until September 23, in my world, it begins September 1. Once the words ‘pumpkin spice’ are released into the universe at the end of August, you already know I’m watching Gilmore Girls. The show follows the lives of mother-daughter duo Lorelai and Rory Gilmore who live in the fictional New England town of Stars Hollow, Conn. If you love what I will call “the 3 C’s of life’s joy” coffee, Carole King and the CW you will enjoy Gilmore Girls. This is the ultimate comfort show. From Lorelai and Rory to diner owner Luke and all of the other townspeople you can be sure to find someone familiar in this fall favorite.
