And Apple is having its next big event. It's coming up, September 12th and you know what that means. We're getting new products this time. People are expecting that we'll see the iphone 15. However, its future sales could be murky with China reportedly considering a ban on Apple phones for more. Let's bring in Cheddar, senior reporter Michelle Castillo Michelle. I'm so glad we're talking about this. China has reportedly banned government officials from using iphones. So what does this mean for moving forward? It's not great news for Apple. If one of the world's largest smartphone markets won't be able to use its phones. So according to the Wall Street Journal, China has barred government officials from using Apple iphones. It has been telling employees through group chats and meetings and other sources told CNN that Chinese officials already haven't been using iphones since the pandemic, even though there wasn't an official rule not to use it and said government officials have been to use Chinese domestic phones made by companies like Huawei. Now Wall Street hasn't liked. The news shares went down 3.6% when the news came out on Wednesday. It's not great news considering Apple is expected to launch its next phone on Tuesday, September 12. As you pointed out, I'm curious how popular is the iphone overall compared to other phone models? We'll start with the US market and take a look at the numbers. So about 262.1 million smart phone users are in the US. That's according to insider intelligence. But here in the US, it's pretty split evenly between Android and Apple users with Apple having a slight edge. But overseas it's a different story. Android is dominant and Apple is a distant second place. So according to stat counter data, Android is about 71% of the global market. Well, Apple retains about 28%. China in particular is a huge market. In fact, it's the world's largest smartphone market research firm I DC has said it has about 1.6 active 1.6 billion active phone lines. And while sales have been declining there, when it comes to buying new smart phones, it's still a lot of people who want phones and Apple could lose out on a lot of potential sales if government officials aren't allowed to use it, who knows what comes next? Right? A lot of people are wondering, I'm wondering about the price point, but what else do we know about the upcoming iphone? Well, Apple iphone details are always leak before the actual presentation and we do know quite a bit this time for example, there should be a 6.1 and a 6.7 inch model and that dynamic digital island on the top of the screen, that little black pill is here to stay. Also pro models will get telescopic zoom and we should see it using Apple's upcoming A 17 chip one. Major change the iphone will have though is it's using a USB C charging port. This means it's going to be more universal with other smartphones out there. But also it renders our apple only chargers useless. So get ready for that change. Prices are also expected to increase. And while it will be announced on September 12th, you can expect orders to start on September 15th and based on previous events, the release date should be around September 22nd.
