The U.S. economy added 559,000 jobs in May and while this is the fourth straight month of growth, the number fell short of economist expectations of 671,000. Heather Boushey, a member of the White House Council of Economic Advisors, said that even more jobs will be added as more people receive COVID-19 vaccinations and that at the rate the economy is adding jobs, it will take 14 months to fill jobs that were lost during the pandemic. She also suggested that businesses that may still be struggling to fill positions offer higher wages to entice people back to work.
