World Leaders and Executives Meeting to Discuss A.I.

And as we've been reporting, world leaders and top tech executives are meeting near London to talk about potential risks as artificial intelligence continues to advance China, new senior reporter Michelle Castillo has more on the A I Safety Summit. Great to see you Michelle. So tell us more about this conference and what attendees hope to get out of it. Hannah, the A I Safety Summit is a two day event on November 1st and November 2nd. Its attendees hope to address potential issues with artificial intelligence getting to advance for humankind. The goal is to come up with some sort of co-operation between countries when it comes to future rules and ethics on the development of A I, especially when it comes to these language based models. We know that delegates from 28 countries including the US and China are attending the summit this year. The event as you pointed out is being held in Bletchley Park. It's about 50 miles away from London and it's being spearheaded by UK Prime Minister Rishi Soak who hopes Britain can be a leader in the A I revolution. But other top tech names will also be there. We know that Elon Musk, Microsoft, Ceo Brad Smith, Google, deep mind, Ceo Dennis Hasbi and also a open A I. Sam Altman is going to be there. His company in particular is responsible for chad GP T and image generator dolly. So day one over with what has been accomplished so far. Well, several nations including China have agreed that A I development could pose significant risks in a statement called the Bletchley Decoration. They wrote quote, there is potential for serious even catastrophic harm, either deliberate or unintentional, stemming from the most significant capabilities of these A I models. Many risks are arising from A I are inherently international in nature and so are best addressed through international Cooper operation. These countries have pledged to work together but they didn't really release any plans on how they plan to fix these problems at this time. They also agreed to meet again in the future in similar events, 16 months from now in South Korea and another one next year in France. Now Musk also spoke at the event saying that A I was quote the biggest threat to humanity. He also added that humanity was at quote existential risk because it was the first time we are facing something that has the potential to be smarter than us. And at the same time, jobs in the A I fields are becoming a lot more lucrative. How much are companies willing to pay for these roles? Well, that's right, Hannah A I engineers are making top dollar and may have more job security. A I was the fastest growing category on job site upwork during the first half of this year, job post asking for generative A I skills increased more than 1000% in the second quarter of this year compared to the end of 2022. And while salaries for other tech roles have been steady, and we know that many of the sector has faced layoffs A I engineering roles in particular are paying more and highly in demand. So according to axios, as you see on the screen, the average salary for an A I engineer reached 100 $88,000. This month, software engineers were listed at 100 55,000 and security engineers were only 141,000 data scientist, machine learning engineer and A I researcher are among the top three A I roles that companies are looking for.
