In 2016, 15.4 percent of global venture capital investments were made in San Francisco. The next five cities on the list were also near either the Atlantic or Pacific Oceans. Router Ventures, however, invests in Midwest start-ups. Founder and managing partner Jeff Slobotski says the companies he works with focus on the specific needs of the region. Slobotski says, "A good idea, paired with a little bit of capital and the right resources—you can truly create a company anywhere." Slobotski hopes his investments help these companies move beyond Silicon Valley.
