Yesterday negotiations began on the Biden administration's latest attempt at student loan forgiveness after the Supreme Court blocked Biden's attempt to use the 2003 Heroes Act to advance student loan forgiveness. The White House shifted tactics. The administration is now relying on the Higher Education Act which allows the Secretary of Education to waive student loans. A committee of experts met for the first time yesterday to debate exactly who will be eligible and how much debt could be canceled under this new plan. The negotiations are expected to continue well into December.
